Well, the City Council figured out that talking about "Lazy Cakes" while the city goes belly up is not the brightest move. Could it be they are beginning to get it? Or is it an election year ploy aimed at just making us think they get it?
I'm going for door number two, how about you? During the last year and a half we have seen massive pay raises given to a select few without much comment from the council. I don't think there is a city ordinance against speaking out when tax payer money is being shoveled into the bottomless pit of political patronage. Maybe I'm crazy, I thought they (city council) were elected to represent us. Where were they when these plums were handed out?
Why didn't the council rise up in outrage when a lawyer was given $20,000.00 for putting in one day a week. THAT'S RIGHT, TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, for one day a week! Why didn't they go ballistic with law department raises, school lawyer raise, superintendent of schools raise, school principal raises, and all raises given during a time when our tax base is shrinking, and our state aid is being cut??????
I don't care if it couldn't stop these insane actions by this clueless mayor ! At least call him out ! You have the bully pulpit, use it! Tell Willy Wonka that the money factory is ready to drift off on the sea of receivership! Call him out when he does it, and every time he does it! Don't wait for "Budget" time, or election time, to tell the tax payers you are supposed to represent that their hard earned money is being handed out like monopoly money!
It's now or never, it's time to REPRESENT!!!!! VOTE THIS BUDGET DOWN! NO RAISES OR NO BUDGET! You do that that, then we the taxpayers will send Willy and his merry band of carpetbaggers back to Taunton!
If you don't learn from your mistakes you are doomed to repeat them! We made a blunder of epic proportion when we elected this "fresh face." Another term with WILL, will put Fall River in receivership, and destroy what little we have left of our city. Give Willy and anyone who votes for this budget as it stands now the boot!!! Another ONE and DONE!!!!

A Burning Question
Ban cigarette they are bad,bad,bad! Don't ban them everywhere, just ban them in places that sell prescription drugs. Why you ask? Because the mayor could get some press, yes Mayor Press Conference got to expound on the evils of smoking, Wow, what a revelation!
Mayor Master of the Obvious had a chance to strike a blow in the war against smoking! Yes, he and the idiot council wasted time on a selective ban on cigarettes, while the city is a breath away from receivership. Way to go pin heads! Talk about useless political feel good bull s###, ban cigarettes because they are near prescription drugs, how symbolic, how profound. Yes good verses evil, lung cancer verses marathon running!
Have any one of you ever considered how many people die every year from reactions to prescription medicines? Have any one of you ever considered that they sell junk food and nuts in addition to cigarettes? Why don't you just ban everything except medications? Let's make Drug stores truly "Drug" stores, great idea! We can destroy those businesses, then we can move on to fast food chains and supermarkets! Let's ban them all! Let's make Fall River the City of Tofu and Turkey Burgers!
Talk about feel good pandering political crap! What did we accomplish with this ban? Will it stop a smoker from buying cigarettes? Will it reduce smoking in our city? The answer is a big fat NO!!! All it did was make a smoker go to the next closest store, and hurt business at the banned stores. Maybe our mayor and council have not grasped the marketing concept of attracting customers to your business.
You know, the concept that created malls, large anchor stores that attract customers and the surrounding stores will get consumer traffic. You know, the "Sale" that brings customers in to buy the sale item with the hope that will create the opportunity for other items to be sold.
Wait, YOU DON'T KNOW!! That's why we are in the mess we are in!! Our mayor is busy banning cigarettes while the taxes don't get collected on time, pay raises are being thrown around like we live in Newton or Wellesly, and the unemployment rate is as high as the space shuttle.
Why can't we attract business to Fall River? Let's see, if you were a business would you come to a city that has a budget that will insure it's tax rate goes up for a very long time? A city with uncontrolled spending and no plan? A city with a failing educational system? A city with a mayor that spends his time being the health and food ban police rather than being it's leader? I think not!
Yes tax payers, we have "A BURNING QUESTION" before us! Will we let our city GO UP IN SMOKE or will we the tax payers create our own ban?Let's BAN anyone who wastes time on cigarette bans and lazy cake bans!
Jobs, Budget, Tax Rate, Sewer Fee, these are the items I want to see before the city council. These are the things I want to see a press conference about. I want a plan and I want priorities!!

Fiddling While Fall River Burns?
Well, I'll say it, I supported the mayor in the last election. Based on his performance, or lack there of, he will not get my vote this time around.
I went for the bait, I took it hook line and sinker! Let's get a "New fresh face" someone who was not a "POLITICIAN" I said to myself as I entered the voting booth. Did I get played!!! Wee Willy played me, and a lot of other people like a Stradivarius.
He is definitely a POLITICIAN, the only difference was he played the game down the road in Taunton. Just look at the cronies he towed in from Taunton and the DA's office. Look at what he did for his pals, pay raises and plum jobs. Look what he's done for the city, NOTHING!!! Did he deal with the "Illegal" storm water tax? Did he resolve the strip club issue? Has he done anything except delay and litigate every promise and issue he talked about during his campaign?
What has he done during his year and a half in office? He has played "Policeman" on a prostitution sting, played Fireman at a mill fire, and building inspector at the old Police Station. While Willy played we were late with the property tax bills, which of course he blamed on the previous administration. Ignoring the fact that he had a financial transition team that was supposed to prepare to take over things like collecting taxes.
Heaven forbid we make collecting the primary source of city money a priority. Did somebody change the due date? I DON'T THINK SO!! It was a case of our man/child mayor playing at everything except being MAYOR!

LET'S SHRED ANOTHER LAW SUIT!
LET'S BE THE CIGARETTE POLICE!
LET'S BE THE FOOD POLICE!
LET'S DO ANYTHING BUT LOOK AT A CITY THAT IS DYING BEFORE YOUR EYES! A CITY THAT CAN"T ATTRACT JOBS! CAN'T EDUCATE IT'S CHILDREN! A CITY ON THE BRINK OF RECEIVERSHIP!
THIS CITY IS WITHIN A INCH OF BEING TAKEN OVER BY THE STATE, BOTH FINANCIALLY AND EDUCATIONALLY! WHAT IS OUR MAYOR DOING ABOUT IT? NOT MUCH!
Am I angry? You bet you a## I am! Angry at myself for voting for this buffoon! Angry at Wee Willy for giving out raises to his pals while he raises my taxes and asks the lowest paid city employee's to take pay cuts! Angry that Wee Willy is more concerned on making smokers walk an extra block to get the cancer sticks than he is with dealing with the sewer fee! With banning food products rather than banning pay raises before raising taxes!
This city will not survive another term of Will, where there's a will there is a way; and that way is the way receivership! ONE AND DONE WILLY!!
